US issues travel alert to Mexico for the 2026 World Cup? Here is what authorities say

The US Department of State updated its travel recommendations for Mexico ahead of the 2026 World Cup and the presence of millions of foreign tourists.

With the arrival of the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, the US Department of State updated its travel warnings for American citizens planning to visit the country during the tournament.

The update notes that travelers should take extra precautions in certain areas of the country, although it acknowledges that the World Cup host cities — Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey — have increased security measures for the event.

Mexican authorities responded to the warning insisting that Mexico is “perfectly prepared” to receive the millions of tourists who will visit the country during the tournament, and that thousands of additional security elements have been deployed in the host cities.

The president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) also stepped forward and stated that the country has the logistical capacity and necessary infrastructure to guarantee the security and hospitality that the world expects.
