The Azteca Stadium, one of the most emblematic venues in world soccer, looks completely renovated just days before its premiere in the 2026 World Cup. The remodeling works, which lasted more than two years, give it a modern look while maintaining its historical essence.
The stadium, which already hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, has a capacity for 87,000 spectators and will be the setting for the opening match of the tournament next Sunday, June 15, when Mexico and Ecuador play.
Main improvements of the Azteca
- New roof cover that protects 90% of the stands
- State-of-the-art 360-degree LED screens
- Complete renovation of dressing rooms and press areas
- Improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility
FIFA congratulated the Mexican authorities for the work done and described the Azteca as “one of the best prepared stadiums in the entire World Cup”.
